Why Visibility Is the New Perimeterk
By [Mike Gower], CEO, I.T.Blueprint
I recently attended Fortinet’s Cybersecurity Summit West 2026 in Calgary, and one message stood out above all others: AI changes everything.
Not just because attackers are using AI. Not just because defenders are using AI, but because AI fundamentally changes the importance of visibility. For the organizations we serve at I.T.Blueprint, that shift has real consequences for how security should be designed, deployed, and managed.
The Limits of the “Best-of-Breed” Approach
For decades, cybersecurity strategies were built around layers of best-of-breed technologies. Firewalls, endpoint protection, email security, network access control (NAC), SIEM, cloud security, identity security, and countless other tools formed defensive barriers around the organization.
Each of those tools did its job. The challenge is that most of them operate with only a partial view of the environment. They were purchased at different times, managed by different teams, and report to different consoles. The result is a security stack that is busy, but not always connected.
AI Doesn’t Work Well with Partial Information
Artificial intelligence is only as good as the data it can see, and inherits the biases and blind-spots of the information it is provided. When security tools are siloed, AI-driven defenses can only do so much.
- If your security platform cannot see the network, it misses signals.
- If it cannot see endpoints, it misses context.
- If it cannot see cloud workloads, identities, OT systems, and data, it misses risk.
Attackers understand this. They look for the gaps between tools, and increasingly they are using AI to find those gaps faster. The better the visibility, the better the intelligence, and the faster your organization can detect, correlate, and respond.
Why Fortinet’s Security Fabric Resonated
That is why Fortinet’s Security Fabric message resonated so strongly with me. Rather than adding one more point product, the Security Fabric approach connects security across the network, endpoints, cloud, and operational environments so that intelligence can be shared and acted on as one system.
The future of cybersecurity will not be determined solely by who has the most security products. It will be determined by who can create a unified security architecture where AI can see, correlate, analyze, and respond across the entire attack surface. In a world where AI is defending against AI, visibility is becoming the new perimeter.
What Our Partnership with Fortinet Means for Our Clients
At I.T.Blueprint, our partnership with Fortinet is about more than access to technology. It gives us the platform, insight, and direct relationships to help clients move from a collection of disconnected tools to a security architecture built for the AI era. In practice, that means we help organizations:
- Assess where visibility gaps exist today across network, endpoint, cloud, identity, and OT environments
- Design a unified security architecture that reduces complexity instead of adding to it
- Deploy and integrate Fortinet solutions so security data is shared, correlated, and actionable
- Plan a practical roadmap that aligns security investments with business priorities
Events like Summit West keep us close to where the industry is heading, so we can bring that perspective back to the organizations we support.
Questions Every Leadership Team Should Be Asking
If you are evaluating how AI, visibility, and cybersecurity fit together in your organization, start with a few simple questions:
- Can we see activity across our entire environment from a single point of view?
- Do our security tools share intelligence, or do they operate in isolation?
- Where are the blind spots an attacker would look for first?
- Is our security architecture ready to take advantage of AI, or will it hold AI back?
Visibility Powers Security
I want to thank the Fortinet team for a fantastic event and for keeping the conversation focused on what matters most: helping organizations defend themselves against the next generation of threats.
If you would like to explore how a modern security fabric can help close visibility gaps before attackers find them, I’d be happy to share what we are seeing in the field. Reach out to me directly — I’d welcome the conversation.
